The family of the International Congregational Fellowship comprises (1) national associations of Congregational Churches, (2) institutional bodies such as Theological Colleges, (3) individual Congregational Churches and (4) individual Congregationalists.

In countries such as Australia,New Zealand,  the United Kingdom and the United States of America the merger of Churches to form 'United' or 'Uniting' Churches has resulted in significant numbers of Congregational Churches forsaking the Congregational Way but Congregationalism has not only stubbonly clung to life but remains strong in many countries whilst growing in new areas.

The ICF normally meets in full assembly once in every four years. For example, In 2001 it met in Seoul, South Korea, at the invitation of the Korean Puritan Movement, in 2005 it met onthe Greek Island of Corfu at the invitation of the Greek Evangelical Church, in 2009 it met in Wauwatosa, Michigan, in the USA,  in 2013 it met in London and in 2017 it met at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. However In 2021, by reason of the Coronavirus epedemic, there was no gathering of representatives but the "Zoom" program enabled delegates to view and talk with one another

Between Assemblies affairs are directed by the Executive Committee which meets in different locations at four-year intervals mid-way between Assemblies
